The big slope of Kaķīškalns is located on the Northern hillside of the ancient valley of the River Gauja and it is ~ 320 m long, the altitude difference is 80 metres. This is one of the sportiest slopes in Latvia and is well suitable for skiers with prior experience. The slope has been equipped with platter type ski lift with capacity of 700 people an hour. Furthermore, the slopes are artificially illuminated.

Monday - Thursday 14.00 - 23.00
Friday 14.00 - 24.00
Saturday 9.00 - 24.00
Sunday 9.00 - 22.00

If there is a sufficient number of skiers (more than 10 skiers on the hill), then the slope would usually work longer during weekdays, however not later than midnight. We cannot allow using it later than that because the slope needs to be properly prepared for the upcoming day.

Procedure of payment for skiing:

Payment on the big slope is made per each time you use the ski lift, by paying the expected amount at the cashier and receiving a special electronic card (a security deposit of 5 Ls per card applies), where the respective amount is credited. Each time, when approaching the ski lift, the card must be drawn near the scanning device, which automatically debits the relevant payment for use of the ski lift. After skiing, the skiing card can be restored at the cashiers and the security deposit is returned. Payment for the ski lift can be made either at the top in the café, or at the cashiers on the bottom of the hill. One-time ski lift passes can also be purchased at the cashiers at the foot of the hill.

You can pay for the Big Cat Slope either at the café of Kaķīškalns or at the foot of the hill, not at the rental store.
Payments with cards for the Big Slope can be made only at the café.

Season pass:

If 50 lats or more have been credited to the electronic ski lift card in one payment time, then this card obtains a status of season pass and further on 0.27 Ls are debited from the card per each time of using the ski lift. The term of validity for this card is programmed until the end of the season. The card itself can be used also during the following season, however the credited sum would not in such case roll over to the next season. Furthermore, the sum cannot be removed from this card to be credited to another card. The season passes can be activated at the cash register in the bar.
